If I won a $20 million dollar lottery the first person I would call, unless she was present with me when I found out, would be my mom. She is the person I tell everything too. If she was with me and found out that I had one the same time that I did, I would probably call some good family friends along with family members and other friends. I would be too excited that I wouldn’t be able to hold in the news, unless I was strictly told not to reveal it.
With $20 million dollars I would put a tenth in savings, give a tenth as a tithe to my church, then take what was left and pay for the tuition of the college of my choice, for this would be like winning a scholarship. I would pay off our house mortgage so my mother and I wouldn’t have to worry about whether or not we would have a roof over our heads. I would put a few million dollars in a bank account for my mother to support her for the rest of her life and make her life much easier because she has worked so hard to provide for me and make ends meet since my father died almost eleven years ago. I would fix up our house with any repairs that are needed.
For three years now my mother and I have supported a little girl in Bolivia through World Vision. She has two parent and two brothers and their family is very poor. I would start a trust fund for her to go to college and pay for any education and other needs she and her family has now. I would also take this as another opportunity to support other children in other countries on a monthly basis. I would go to Bolivia to visit the family and find out what the other needs in their country our and see what I could do to help them prosper in life. I would help some very dear friends send their kids to college. They have been so faithful to help us out and have become another part of our family. They have four children, for whom I would set up a trust fund for each. One of their children is adopted from the Hope Foster Home in China. I would send a gift to the Hope Foster Home so that they can continue to provide medical care for the children who have medical needs.
With what was left over, I would put in my bank account and pay for my phone bill, use it for anything I need (such as toiletries, groceries, etc.), and possibly splurge on a laptop computer for school and a nice camera so I could work on something I love; my photography. The Laptop of my choice would most likely be a Mac book of some sort, because they are good for editing and music making, which is something else I love. The camera of my choice would be a Canon. Though I would not begin to know what model to get, in which case I would get the advice of someone who is more experienced in the field of photography and cameras. The said college that I would pay for would be The Art Institute of Charleston, which caters towards my love for photography and would me help pursue a career in some field of photography.
I think my happiness from winning the lottery would last a while, because I could take care of things that I would never have been able to take care of before. I would consider it as an answer to prayer. God blessed me with something so I would be happy for a long time. But I would also ask God to keep me from being dissatisfied and not content with what He has provided me with. I think that is the problem today with celebrities who have tons of money. They have a hole in their life that they try to fill up with things that only money can buy. They think they can fill it up with material possessions when those are the very things that can tear people down.
There sure would be so many possibilities with 20 million dollars! Thanks for sharing your essay.
That is incredibly generous! A very noble cause indeed.
