@Eric Use MarkeSamurai to see what's popular. Try everything possible. There's bound to be something that interests you and is popular.
I'm really enjoying my niche. It doesn't look like anyone else is competing with me in here :)

That sounds fine. These are all very interesting niches. It doesn't look like we'll be competing directly.

I am in the same situation as Mike. I purchased a domain for my wife to start a niche site a while ago, and there are 0 articles and 0 backlinks to the site right now.
Would anyone mind if I use this one?
Martin, I was laughing really hard when I saw your niche site – but I think you'll do very well with it!
Great! I'm sure that I will not be competing with anyone here with my keyword! This is going to be very interesting.

Get the trial version and see for yourself. The answer is different for everyone. Worth it for me. A tool of the trade :)

It was definitely worth it for me. If you get the trial version, you save $50 as long as you buy within the first 7 days (I think it's still 7)! To be honest, it's is probably worth a few hundred dollars to me because of all the time it saves!

Okay – I finally got internet back and was able to enter my niche into the spreadsheet. I'm not committing money towards the pot (I hope that's okay). If I win, I won't take any money that was contributed. But, my niche is more of a long term thing because I failed to consider the tough competition of the top 10. (What a newbie mistake) 1 out of the 10 I can beat out and I think it will be worth it since there are 200k+ monthly searches… but will take some time.
Here's to lots of writing ahead… Good luck – because you will need it! (haha)

I got my niche site idea from an article I wrote a couple years ago that was generating quite a bit of traffic even though it wasn't about personal finance. If you have an article that doesn't really fit the theme of your blog but generates a fair amount of traffic it could be a good candidate for a niche site.

Wow…you move fast! My wife wrote the first article, and I will probably post it today or tomorrow. I am hoping to get indexed by the end of the week.
How exactly do you know when your site gets indexed?

Just Google the domain name. It should show up if it's indexed.

You don't need this duel. You need a girlfriend…and Jesus…and a hug. Maybe in that order.

I got home late tonight and I almost went to bed without posting on my niche site. 5 posts. I'm going to hit my target of 20 for sure.
Just wondering, what sort of pages are you guys creating? I'm thinking about an about page and resources page.

So far I'm just doing pages related to the topic, plus a privacy policy and disclaimer page.

I'm creating pages for a couple of subtopics, about, privacy policy/disclaimer, and resources. My site will probably do better with affiliate sales, and not simply with AdSense.
