Cool.  Let's go on FS, b/c Yakezie.com is queued up for the next 50 posts.  Take your time writing, as I have a 15 post queue as well, and don't post everyday.

I joined the Yakezie on July 16th, 2010.  I was at 533,108 in Alexa.  I am currently at 302,067.  My daily rank is 186,244, so I'm certainly on track.  The last two weeks have shown more improvement than the month before that.

I write about my entirely un-unique circumstance of being buried in debt, how I'm fixing that, and how I'm improving the rest of my life.   Living in the real world doesn't have to be depressing.  :)

Good stuff Jason!  The first challenge ended on July 6th, so when you breach 200,000, let us know.  In the meantime, keep on getting to know everybody!

Regards,

Sam

Sounds good!  I'll work on it and get it to you in the next couple of weeks.  Thanks!

Hey everyone!

Again, I'm late to the party like I was late to join the Yakezie challenge.

Simon here, from Realm of Prosperity. Started blogging in personal finance in my 3rd year of college when I began taking my money matters seriously. I love writing about my personal experiences with money and how it can translate to a valuable, actionable lesson for readers. From time to time though, I like to blog about finances from a conceptual and philosophical perspective. Ultimately, the blog serves as a portal for me to record my financial experiences and thoughts on long road to prosperity.

I joined the Yakezie challenge around the same time as Paul but started at the unremarkable rank of 1,115,170 on August 16. It's been a little over 2 weeks now and I've shot up to 660,147. Although I've known about Alexa ranking, I've mostly given it the cold shoulder up until now. The Yakezie Challenge will help keep me focused! (Shocked to find out sites with much less traffic obtaining ranks under 100,000)

So far, it feels great to become part of the community! Everything seems to be kicking off with a bang. Expect to see me around (if you haven't already) promoting and networking with all of you!

P.S. Check out this guest post I pitched to Sam.

Good to have you here, Simon!  You'll shoot up the Alexa ranks in no time.  I got into the 200k's just by installing the toolbar myself and visiting every day.  I'm already seeing the results from Alexa (and hosting a carnival) as my 1 month average is around 140,000 – enough to make the front page of Wise Bread's list if I can hold it out.

I enjoyed your guest post, and I've just subscribed to your blog.  Good luck!

Hello Simon, welcome aboard! I just added your site to my RSS feeder, so you'll be seeing a lot more of me!

Don't worry about starting low, I was actually at 1,704,000 when I first installed the toolbar about 6 weeks ago (now I'm under 192k). I actually saw one of the Yakezie blogs start at over 8 mm!

Thanks guys! Quite confident that I'll be joining you in the higher ranks soon.

@Paul: I actually signed up to host the CoPF as well. Just waiting to see if I'm good enough. (I've started working on the post/topic for it. It'll be a fun edition if I get to host it!)

@Khaleef: Wow, you beat the challenge in 6 weeks?! That is quite the feat.

Got any tips have helped propel you guys towards the top? I'm thinking about doing a few more guest post contributions and already trying get in line to host the carnival. And, not to forget my increased activity in promoting fellow Yakezie challengers/members.

You could always try bribing your readers into installing the Alexa toolbar or Firefox's Search Status extension!  Maybe connect it with a giveway, though you'd have to base it on the honor system.

Other than that it sounds like you're doing what you should.  I have also heard that writing a great post geared toward webmasters is another good way to increase Alexa ranking.  Most people don't know what Alexa is but many webmasters do.  So if you can attract them to your site it should help.

Hey Simon, thanks!

I didn't do anything special. I wrote a Yakezie post on my site letting everyone know about the challenge and asked my readers to install the toolbar.

The only other thing that I did was make sure to post regularly, and promote all other Yakezie member sites. I try to read and comment at least one article on each site per week – just be sure to make them quality comments and not just "link spam". I now have a weekly roundup where I highlight my favorite articles from the previous week – I have a special section for Yakezie articles.

I honestly think it's the Yakezie members more than my non-blogging readers that have made the difference. If you ever want me to support/promote any of your writing, just let me know (a direct message on Twitter works best).

@ Paul, that is a great idea about writing toward webmasters!

I welcome the chance to do things like that. At least other writers can know that people enjoy their writing. I have come across a lot of good websites through Yakezie.

Hi All,

I started the Alexa Challenge the end of March with a ranking of 448,950.  Today it is 88,307 which has been a big boon.  Once you get under 200,000 I started getting all kinds of offers for advertising, reviews and people looking for "free" links.

Moving up (or should I say down) the ranking has been incredible but I think the bigger benefit is what I've learned from the rest of the group. My goal over the next year is to get serious about generating revenue from the blog.  I ignored most ad offers for the past six months (stupid, I know) but am ready to get going.

Hi Guys,

My name is Kevin and I am the blogger @ Smarterspend.com

I joined Yakezie a few months ago and my Alexa went from 850k to ~400k. Unfortunately, I had to move, so I was away for about a month and my ranking went down to its current 693k. I am hoping to bring it up to around 250k again.

I am very excited about getting to know everyone on this forums and want to give props to anyone involved in working on the site.

Cheers.

How do y'all remember when you joined?

Hi, Money Funk here. I joined the Yakezie with a 425,121 and at the end of the challenge was at approximately 86,000. Then I had to reevaluate my personal life for personal reasons and fell to now a 152,452 due to lack of being around. But I know what it takes to get it back up. So mid September… I am planning to vamp the writing back up to raise that number. A lot of good opportunities come your way with a nice Alexa score.

Goals… I have a few in mind, but some are still in the works. I am going to re-increase the Alexa numbers on Money Funk, finish setting up my healthy living blog and online store. My hopes are to kick it to working full-time from home. And the opportunities are prospering. Its just making sure I take the right ones, have a plan to increase the possibilities, and continue forward.
