Hi! I’m Mrs. Money from Ultimate Money Blog. I started my blog in January 2008 as a way to share my money saving and green living ideas.  I firmly believe that when you try to save money, living green goes hand in hand.

Getting in (and out of) debt

I had never had any consumer debt until my husband decided he wanted to attend culinary school. Our gross annual income when he decided he wanted to go back to school was around $34,000 and needless to say, the student loans we took out totaled more than that at over $36,000.  Luckily, we continued to live frugally and paid off that debt in three years.

Unfortunately, we also found ourselves needing a new second car when one of ours was totaled by a tree that fell on our house and car.  Needless to say, neither the homeowners or auto insurance covered the replacement of our second vehicle, so we had to buy a used car and take out a car loan (which we just paid off!) Going into debt and then digging ourselves out is not something I’d like to go through again.

Living Green and Saving Money

The majority of activities that save money also help create a lower impact on the environment.  Some of the weird things I do like no poo, often get strange looks from people when they hear about them, but if it helps me save money and live a better life, that’s all that matters.  I love to make my own laundry detergent, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.  It is almost a hobby for me and I enjoy using things I know I’ve created.

Joining the Yakezie

I can’t remember where I first heard about the Yakezie, but when I heard about what the group believed in, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.  I think it’s awesome to help other people out, and I love doing everything I can to help others.  As a part of the Yakezie, I’ve met a ton of awesome people, and have learned a lot about blogging and hopefully shared some insight as well.  I hope my blog continues to grow and be successful, and that I can one day make a full time living blogging.

My Personal Life

I live with my husband and two dogs on our little ‘homestead’.  We grow a nice garden each year, and I try to can some of the veggies each summer.  I’d love to get chickens, and I think next spring they just might be in my future!  I enjoy working on home renovations, and learned how to install laminate flooring, trim, and tile just from being too cheap to hire someone.  Thankfully, I’m also a perfectionist, so things have turned out pretty nicely.  I also enjoy simple living, and many of my blog posts reflect my desire to simplify and remove clutter from my home.

Here are some of my favorite posts:
