Greetings from the Beagle! I blog at Money Beagle. Although my blog name might suggest that I have at least one beagle, I actually do not. Beagles are, however, my favorite dog, and I would love to own one someday in the future. But, since I love beagles so much and since I loved the idea of sharing my money experiences, thus Money Beagle was born!
I started Money Beagle a little over two years ago. Prior to that, I had stumbled across a few personal finance blogs and thought I had a lot to offer, so I decided to give it a go. At the time, I was a newlywed, having been married to my wife for about eight months. Since then, we’ve found out we were expecting and are now the proud parents of Little Boy Beagle.
Money Beagle is focused on the personal side of money, most notably, how it affects me personally! I tend to shy away from the SEO focused type content and instead post everyday thoughts and experiences that tie back to money related topics. Without the SEO content, my blog has grown slower than many others, but I wouldn’t change the thing as the readers I have are very loyal and give me some great feedback.
The Yakezie Effect
I was pleased to have joined the Yakezie many months back. One of the things that I noticed was that personal finance bloggers often promoted one another, but what I noticed is that the higher traffic blogs seemed to be exclusively promoting other high traffic blogs. The Yakezie seemed to be a way for blogs of all shapes and sizes to promote each other. I haven’t been as lucky as many others to cross the 200k Alexa mark yet, but I’m still hoping to cross that threshold.
My Money Background and Goals
I learned at a young age that debt was not something to be taken lightly. I was blessed to have parents and grandparents who all valued the idea of saving money and not owing money. With this, I’ve always saved money for retirement, I’ve always paid off my credit cards every month, and making sure to reduce the debt we do have (currently student loans and mortgage) is a key focus.
I’m also blessed to have a wife who shares in these goals. She and I both agree that paying off loans is key, that saving is important, and we plan on sharing and teaching this with Little Boy Beagle (and any other kids we might be blessed with) as they grow.
What’s Next?
There any many bloggers out there whose stories and experiences are thoughtful, inspiring, and teaching, and who I look forward to seeing what they have to say every time they post. All I can hope for is that others out there might say the same about Money Beagle and what I present. I will continue to post my stories, my experiences, my advice, and in a way that I hope others appreciate and get value from.
One of my favorite phrases is something that a coach repeated over and over back in college, that I think is worth a reminder for myself and everybody to remember every day (thus, it closes out all of my blog posts), and that is “It’s a great day to be alive!”

First off congrats on the marriage and the child. Nothing like parenthood to get one’s financial mind together. But sounds like you are your wife are on the right path cause you have similar ideas about money. You wouldn’t, actually you probably would, believe how many couples constantly argue and fight over money, so count yourself as blessed in this area.
Everyone has an unique voice and there are many people that will find it special. Keep blogging, keep reaching, and keep Yakezie’ing!
And yes, it is a GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE!
Hey Money Beagle!
You know, I always assumed you had 8 or 9 beagles running around your house at any given time. :)
I always enjoy your posts but since you use Blogger I have trouble commenting at work, and I rarely remember to come back to it when I get home. But I’ll try to participate more and help you crack the 200,000 barrier.
Thanks, Mike! I have heard various grumblings about Blogger but didn’t know it was so widespread as I think a couple of others commented on it.
I too figured you had beagles running around you! Beagles are my favorite dog also, as I had one growing up. (Well, she was a beagle-mutt.) I also have an affinity for Snoopy.
Love your new theme, it looks great- and I have enjoyed your blog for a long time now!
Also a big fan of Snoopy. I own a DVD set of a few of the holiday specials (and on my Christmas list this year is more!)
Love the name! I have 4 grand-dogs myself. I agree it’s prudent to not own one till you are ready for the cost and with a little one around, I am sure you have your hands full.
thanks for sharing your story, and good luck on reaching your goals.
I love the name as well and think you have a fine site. Congratulations on the family and for staying true to your topic interests!
Beagle, I like the new look of the site. And don’t worry about the SEO. If you write what you’re passionate about, people will come.
Great name! I think the idea of teaching people through experiences is the best way to learn. It’s good to get to know you.
Nice to meet you Money Beagle! Keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll surely be rewarded at the end. And with the support from other Yakezie members, you’ll probably get there sooner than later.
I also can’t comment from work (like Mike above), but I am sending myself an email reminder now to visit more often with my laptop with the Alexa toolbar at home and to start participating. Thanks for the intro and congrats on a happy marriage and becoming a daddy!
It’s funny, since I found your site, I always assumed you owned a few beagles as well!
It’s good to see that you are writing what you want, rather than selling out to get search traffic!
It always helps when both partners in a marriage have the same outlook and goals when it comes to finances!
Glad to be a part of the Yakezie with you!
Looking forward to reading your blog.
I love reading how marriage partners are on the same page with their finances. Congrats. I love your “down to earth” blogging philosophy. You remind me of me.
You don’t have a beagle? Well, go and get one! LOL Thank you for sharing your experience. I also cannot comment on blogspot blogs at work, so hopefully I remember to do it at home!
I always thought you had a beagle. One word of caution: They are noisy! I enjoy reading your blog and must say that im proud to have been a subscriber since before you had baby beagle. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Jeff! You’re definitely one of my biggest promoters and I appreciate that (I need to spend more time promoting others as well).
I think you need to officially get a beagle. The one you have on your post is soo adorable. Congratulations on the baby, I didn’t know you were a proud parent =)
Very good point about the other “high traffic blogs promoting other high traffic blogs”. I am also very grateful for the Yakezie breaking this barrier and encouraging a more equitable distribution of promoting =)
I’m not one for the SEO trickery either. If my blog grows, it’s because people like what I’m writing. Not because some google robot likes certain words I use. I’m right there with ya!
I’m also surprised no Beagle is part of your family, but I’m assuming one day you will get that beagle…one day. :)
I have a hound dog at my house (basset) so understand why the beagle is your favorite dog. I’m a fan of your writing and look forward to your posts.
As others said, it’s great you started out with such a good financial foundation and you and your wife are on the same page. You are right; it is a great day to be alive!
Money Beagle has no Beagle??!! Next you’ll tell me that Financial Samurai really isn’t a Japanese Warrior! ;)
Congrats on the Little Boy Beagle – being a Daddy is one of the greatest joys in life!
You mentioned a coach – just curious what sports you played?
I didn’t play any organized sports per se. The ‘coach’ was an assistant football coach but he taught a fitness class that met twice a week that focused on things like weight training, cardio, and healthy eating. He’d go out and start working our tails off on a run or whatever, and was all “It’s a beautiful day, you’re young, you’re getting in shape. It’s a great day to be alive!” Really worked too! I took it as sort of an ‘extra’ class one semester and loved it.
Ignore the robots and stick to your roots! Congrats on parenthood and keep up the good work :)
I love almost all dogs so Beagles are included there. Sadly I don’t have a dog either :(. My life if too mobile so it would be a selfish decision. Your blog has always been great and I enjoy your posts. Your mindset is great and an asset to the group.
Hello Money Beagle!
Thank you for introducing yourself, and I do enjoy your quote.
I haven’t had the fortune of knowing many beagles, but I do like small dogs.
Good luck on your journey into crossing that 200k threshold.
I always thought that you raised beagles for sale, as a side job… lol! You fooled us all :)
I’ve been to your site, and like the friendly style in which you write your posts.
Thanks for sharing your story :)
Hey Beagle – I like that quote! Very nice, good to remember this each day. Congrats on the birth of your child – as a parent myself, I know how life-changing in a great way that is. Also, don’t worry about the rankings – be yourself, and it’s good to see that you’re authentic in that way. The rankings will come anyway.
Hello Money Beagle!
I like the name. I always wondered what it stood for. You have the right attitude towards money with no credit card debt. Congratulations on the new addition!
I think it’s great you had parents and grandparents who were able to teach you so much about finances and that you’re passing on so much of that knowledge. You’ve done a great job over on Money Beagle and you definitely provide a really neat perspective. Looking forward to reading a lot more of your content!
Love the name of your blog, and Love Beagles! New here, but look forward to reading all the great blogs!
And here, I thought you were the Money Beagle because beagles have such a reputation for getting into everything and leaving nothing unturned in their search for their goal. But, loving beagles is a good reason too! Love your work.
Congrats, Money Beagle! I agree with the others that it’s time for you to get a Beagle. I’ve appreciated the great comments you’ve left on my site, and… hope that you got that thermos and that you aren’t having any problems with the coffee these days! :P
Thanks to all for the comments. I look forward to continuing to get to know everybody more. Stay in touch!
I love your style moneybeagle. I agree that it is a great day to be alive. People often get to caught up in the little things to remember how good they have it.
Hey Beagle,
Great Story. I haven’t had the opportunity to participate on your site and that is completely my fault. I hope to change that in the upcoming months.
Hi Money Beagle, I am happy to get to know you more and look forward to visiting your site more frequently! I like like the idea of personal stories, as we can learn so much from one another. Also, I admire your candor about SEO, too much focus on SEO can create a formulaic approach. I believe if one writes their passion, the masses will come. Sooner…… or later. What’s the hurry?
I always assumed you had at least a few beagles and the picture was your dog. I like your new theme and I have always followed your blog (even before I started mine and discovered yakezie) but I can’t comment, something to do with blogger I guess, because I can’t comment in Watson Inc as well.
What the heck is SEO? I can’t even spell the word. LOL
I love beagles too. They are so darn cute. Congrats on your new son!
Best,
Len
