Yakezie Member Post: Todd’s Wanderings

Travel Everywhere You Can

by in Lifestyle on Apr 11th, 2011

Hi everyone, my name is Todd Wassel and I have a confession, I’m not a personal finance blogger. I’m actually what most people would like to call irresponsible. In 1999 I packed up a few bags and left home, left the US and started my continuing journey around the world. My family thought it was a phase, they pleaded with me to come home, others wondered when I would get grow up and get a real job. Flash forward 12 years and I’m still on the road, I have grown up (depending on who you talk to), and I have a real job…kind of.

I guess I’m a lifestyle and travel blogger, but to be honest I’m not sure those labels fit me any better than the “it’s a phase” or “he’ll get a real job” labels fit me a decade ago. Although according to my website I’m in the business of Lifestyle Strategies, Travel and Adventures. But what does this mean on a practical level from a blogging perspective? After all, I achieved my current lifestyle without my blog. What does my blog add to my current lifestyle and where do I go from here? Let’s see how I got here in the first place and then maybe we can piece together where I’m headed next.Yes, you’re about to get my whole life in under 400 words…

How To Create A Sustainable Organization

Always Promote A Meritocracy

No matter what organization you join, there will be times of disappointment and frustration.  At work for example, you might wonder why one person is getting paid the same amount as you when you feel like you are doing all the work.  Worse yet, you might wonder how that person ever got promoted ahead of you in the first place!  Those are the moments which demotivate the soul and cause you to fester with agitation.

If we are completely honest with ourselves, we should realize that it is virtually impossible to be a part of an organization whose members are always contributing equally.  It’s just not realistic.  Instead, we look for teammates who have a shared vision, and whose principles we can admire.  We each have our own way of doing things, and that is what we must cherish in each other.

What’s the best thing about the times we live in?

We have more opportunities than ever for making money and you can do it sitting on your couch! Think about it, Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett had to wade through pages and pages of company reports to pick stocks but today anyone, not just the wealthy, can get these in a matter of seconds and at no cost!

You can spend all your savings shopping online or you can grow your savings by offering services online. And if you aren’t careful, you can also get scammed. The choice is yours.

Blogging Tax Tips for 2015

Getting Your Money Squared Away

by in Personal Finance on Apr 3rd, 2011

As I was reading Yakezie Member posts months ago, I realized that many started off like myself as bloggers looking towards reaching a personal goal. Some of us saw blogging as an opportunity to get more educated on our finances and take responsibility for our futures. Along the way, we noticed that it also became a legitimate and alternative source of income.

With January here and many people thinking about their taxes, I thought it would be a perfect time to go ahead and share some tax tips for bloggers.

Lifestyle Blogging

Something Different For Everyone

If you’ve been around the internet for a while, it seems like the “lifestyle” bloggers have really taken the whole place by storm.  They are on their own websites, preaching the benefits of minimalism, selling you e-books about it, and trying to convince you that you can live anywhere in the world, if you have the right lifestyle.  Here at Yakezie, we even have two of our own lifestyle bloggers, Earl and Forest.  I happen to like these lifestyle bloggers – I always find their story interesting, and just like everyone, they’ve got some great tips if you’re willing to try them.

But I’m not sure….. Read More

Personal Finance Blog

From an early age, I learned and took pride in saving.  I tried to squeeze everything I could out of every penny, sometimes to a fault.  When we were teenagers, I was left in charge of some spending money between my brother and me while my parents went away for vacation for a few weeks.  To my brother’s disgust, I documented every item and made us use half of what we were allotted.  I was quite proud of my accomplishment, but I do remember my parents being slightly freaked out at my ultra-miserly ways.

I have to say I’ve eased up a bit and enjoy myself more.  But having gone through the worst recession in our lifetime, I re-evaluated my spending habits.  I felt like a kid again.  Pinching pennies, clipping coupons, searching the internet high and low for deals and when I found them, wow, it was ecstasy.

Build Your Confidence. Things Are Easier Than They Seem.

by in Personal Finance on Mar 25th, 2011

Life is competitive.  There is no dearth of people looking to go toe-to-toe with you in battle.  From getting into college, to starting your own company, to wooing that boy or girl, nothing good comes easy!  Conversely, a lot of bad comes easily because you let people crap all over you.  Don’t let that happen.

The world is big enough for all of us to flourish!  The market is large enough to make anybody comfortably wealthy.  You just have to believe you will succeed.

About Me

My name is Miss T and I was born and raised in Manitoba, Canada, where my husband and I still live today. I have seen a lot challenge in my life – I was bullied as a kid, I was sick as a kid, had a sick mother growing up, had families that lost homes in a flood, etc. – but I have been able to be resilient and get though all of these difficulties. I guess I always saw the need to go on and persevere. Giving up just wasn’t an option. People in my life and my future self relied on me to keep plugging along. Growing up my mother nicknamed me the “little engine that could” because I would always find a way to get past each road block and keep going. Read More
